After several months of negotiations, the Egyptian star Mohamed Salah renewed his contract with Liverpool, the leader of the English Premier League, for two additional seasons until June 30, 2027, as announced by the prestigious northern club today, Friday. Salah’s contract, who is 32 years old, was set to expire at the end of the current season. Salah said on the official Liverpool website: “Of course, I am very excited. We have a great team now. Before that, we also had a great team, but I signed because I believe we have a chance to win more titles and enjoy football.”
He added: “It’s wonderful, I have spent my best years here, I have played for eight years, and I hope it will be ten. I enjoy my life here, and I enjoy football, I have lived the best years of my career.”
He added: “I would like to tell the fans that I am very happy to be here. I signed here because I believe in our ability to win many big titles together. Keep supporting us, and we will do our best, and we hope to win more titles in the future.”

The renewal was not smooth between the two parties, and Salah had announced in previous statements at the end of last year that he was “closer to leaving Liverpool than staying with them.” He said at the time, “We are about to enter December, and I have not received any offer yet to stay at the club,” then stated that the contract renewal deal was “far-fetched,” noting that his name was linked to a move to Saudi Arabia. However, he has always clarified that his preferred option is to stay at Liverpool. Liverpool’s Dutch coach, Arne Slot, commented on Salah’s contract renewal, saying in a press conference today, “The club’s supporters can breathe a sigh of relief; it is a pleasant surprise for them, but I have known for a while that things were heading in the right direction.

“He continued: “I would like to congratulate the sporting director Richard Hughes for successfully renewing Salah’s contract, who is considered a great player and could have signed with any club he wanted since he was at the end of his contract, but he wanted to continue with us.”
He explained: “I am extremely happy, of course, Salah has proven to be an added value to the team over the past few years.”
And Salah, a two-time African Player of the Year, joined Liverpool in 2017 from AS Roma, and he has scored 243 goals in 394 matches in various competitions with the Reds so far.

Salah won the UEFA Champions League with Liverpool and contributed to ending the club’s 30-year drought of the English Premier League title when they clinched it in 2020, achieving a total of eight titles during his time in Merseyside. Salah continues to shine this season, having scored 27 goals and provided 17 assists in the domestic league, making him the third-best scorer in Liverpool’s history, a list topped by Ian Rush with 346 goals, followed by Roger Hunt with 285. Salah is also the fifth-best scorer in the history of the Premier League with 184 goals.
During his time with Liverpool, Salah won the Player of the Year award twice and is a candidate for the award for the third time this season. The extension of Salah’s contract comes during the most challenging period of the season for him and his team, Liverpool, although they are heading towards clinching the league title.
