
Al Jazira completed the contract of the four clubs that qualified for the semifinals of the Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB) Cup with a dramatic match against Al Ain
A dramatic match against Al Ain ended with Al Jazira beating Al Ain on penalties 4-2, after a 3-3 aggregate draw
Al Jazira had lost the first leg at Hazzaa Stadium by a scoreless goal, and came back to win at home 3-2, before going straight to penalties, which was decided by Al Jazira.
Al Ain opened the scoring after Sufian Rahimi took advantage of a mistake by Al Jazira’s Jassama in clearing the ball, to pass it to Laba Kodjo, who played it cleverly over the goalkeeper and bounced off the crossbar, and Khalid Al Balushi completed it in the goal (12).
Al Jazira came back into the game and Ramon Mirez scored the equalizer with a shot from the edge of the box in the 25th minute.
Before the end of the first half, Vinicius Melo managed to score the first goal for Al Jazira with a precise shot, which Al Ain goalkeeper Mohammed Bu Sinda was unable to save (45+5).
Al Jazira dominated most of the second half and capitalized on their advantage, and Ramon Mirez scored his second personal goal and his team’s third, after he converted Vinicius Melo’s cross into the goal (77).
But Al Ain did not give up, as substitute Matteo Sanabria was able to score a goal to reduce the difference with a solo effort (95+5).
4-2, the two teams went to a penalty shootout after a 3-3 tie and Al Jazira won the match.
Al Jazira will meet Al Wasl and Shabab Al Ahli will meet Sharjah in the semifinals, the date of which has not been officially set by the UAE Pro League.
