In one of the biggest upsets of the UAE football season, First Division side Dubai United eliminated top-tier Sharjah from the UAE President’s Cup after a dramatic 5-4 win on penalties. The match, held Friday evening at Sharjah Club Stadium, ended 1-1 in regular and extra time before heading to a shootout.
Sharjah took the lead in the 37th minute through new signing Harib Abdullah Suhail, making his debut after joining from Shabab Al Ahli. However, United equalized in the 53rd minute via Korean midfielder Mustafa Nam. Despite Sharjah’s dominance in possession and chances, United held firm and triumphed in the shootout, securing a historic quarterfinal berth under the tactical guidance of Italian coach Andrea Pirlo.
