In a landmark moment for UAE sports governance, the electoral General Assembly of the UAE Basketball Federation convened on Sunday at the Olympic Committee headquarters in Dubai to elect the new Board of Directors for the 2024–2028 term. With full legal quorum achieved through the presence of 18 member clubs, the assembly marked a pivotal step toward shaping the future of basketball in the Emirates.
Abdul Latif Al-Fardan, the nominee from Sharjah Club, was unanimously elected as President of the Federation by acclamation, reflecting the collective confidence in his leadership and strategic vision. Similarly, Ghaliya Abdullah Al Mazmi, representing the Sharjah Women’s Sports Foundation, secured her seat on the board as the female representative—also by acclamation—underscoring the Federation’s commitment to inclusive and balanced representation.
The elections saw six candidates vying for five board member positions. The results revealed strong support for:

  • Mohammed Saleh (Al Hamriya Club)
  • Hamdan Saeed (Al Jazira Club)
  • Farid Al-Qaiwani (Al Nasr Club) — all receiving the full 18 votes
  • Ibrahim Mohammed Abbas (Shabab Al Ahli Club) with 16 votes
  • Ali Hassan Al-Amiri (Al Bataeh Club) with 13 votes
Meanwhile, Mansour Al-Hashemi, the candidate from Al Ain Club, received seven votes and did not secure a seat.
In his first statement following the announcement, President Abdul Latif Al-Fardan expressed his gratitude:

Al-Fardan’s election signals a renewed commitment to elevating the sport through strategic planning, talent development, and regional influence. His leadership is expected to usher in a phase of innovation, institutional growth, and enhanced international presence for UAE basketball.

With Abdul Latif Al-Fardan at the helm, the UAE Basketball Federation embarks on a transformative journey—one that blends experience with ambition, and tradition with forward-thinking strategy. His acclamation is not merely a vote of confidence, but a resounding endorsement of a vision that promises to redefine the game across national and regional arenas.

Under Al-Fardan’s leadership, Emirati basketball is poised to rise—driven by unity, excellence, and a shared passion for progress.
